Blue-bike in the Ghent Transport Region

 

As of September 1, Blue-bike will switch to a flexible back-to-many system in the Ghent Transportation Region. From then on, you pay €2.5 for the first 24 hours, or even less for a short ride. We welcome no less than 49 new locations in our network. An additional 13 locations will follow in the course of September. Most of the locations will also have E-bikes, a total of 250 for the entire Ghent Transport Region.

What will change on September 1?

Switch to flexible back-to-many system

Unlike the Blue-bike points in the rest of the country, you can end your ride at another Blue-bike point within the Transport Region of Ghent without additional cost. Ideal when you combine your bike ride with train, bus, carpool…

49 new locations

As of September 1, you can rent a bike at 49 new Blue-bike locations in Ghent Transport Region. The other locations within Transport Region Ghent will follow in the course of September.

Extra competitive rate for short trips

For short trips, we are introducing an extra competitive rate of €1 per 30 minutes with a maximum rate of €2.50 for the first 24 hours. In a number of locations, you can cycle even more advantageously thanks to an intervention of the local government.

 

What else will change in the course of September?

13 additional locations

Over the course of September, we are expanding our network even further with 13 additional locations. As soon as a location opens, it will become available in the Blue-bike app and you can start biking right away.

250 E-bikes

Ready for an electric bike ride? Over the course of September, we’ll place E-bikes at most of the locations. You’ll recognize these locations by the pink lightning bolt in the app. Borrowing is done through the Blue-bike app.

 

Locations

You can rent Blue-bikes at 65 different locations in Transport Region Ghent. Unlike Blue-bike points in the rest of the country, you can end your ride at any other Blue-bike point within the Transport Region Ghent zone at no extra cost.

How does the Blue-bike share bike system work in transport region Ghent?

In Transport Region Ghent, Blue-bike works with a back-to-many system. This means that you can rent one of the shared bicycles and end your ride at one of the 65 Blue-bike points in Ghent Transport Region at no extra cost.

For a non-electric bike, you pay only €1 per 30 minutes. Do you cycle longer than 60 minutes? Then you automatically switch to the rate per 12 hours and pay € 2.50. E-bike rates work on the same principle and cost €2 per 30 minutes and €5 per 12h. In locations with third-party payer arrangements, you cycle even more advantageously thanks to a local government intervention. Do you borrow a bike for longer than 24 hours? Then our general rates for long journeys apply.

With a Blue-bike membership you always have a bike in your pocket anywhere in Belgium. Per ride, you pay the applicable fare in Transport Region Ghent, as mentioned above, or the general fare at other Blue-bike locations in Belgium.
