Having trouble with your Blue-bike? If you are at least 1.5 kilometres away from a Blue-bike location, you can use the free bike assistance service provided by Ethias. Below you can find when and how to make use of it.
When can I use Ethias assistance?
In the event of a breakdown due to a traffic accident or bike trouble, Ethias Assistance will arrange and cover the cost of towing the bike and bringing the cyclist back to the nearest Blue-bike location when:
- you are in Belgium with your Blue-bike,
- you are at least 1.5 km away from a Blue-bike location,
- you are unable to continue your journey safely due to a (mechanical or electrical) issue (such as a flat tyre, faulty lights, etc.),
- or in case of an accident involving the Blue-bike where the bike is no longer usable
If you have sustained serious injuries and need to be taken to hospital, Ethias will cover the cost of transport to the hospital and later back home, provided you can present a medical certificate.
Please note:
- You can only use the assistance service if you can demonstrate that you were actively using the bike at that time (i.e. the bike is rented or there is an ongoing ride in the app).
- When you call Ethias for assistance, you must remain with the Blue-bike until help arrives.
- Ethias will not reimburse any costs if the bike or the user has already been transported by someone else.
How can I use Ethias assistance?
Call Ethias on 011 28 28 28 (or +32 4 220 3040 for service in French) and provide the following information:
- the bike number (located on the rear mudguard)
- your first and last name
- the location of the incident or breakdown
- a description of the issue or accident
- your mobile phone number
Afterwards, please also send an email to info@blue-bike.be so we can close your ongoing ride.
