This year, the City of Genk is investing 3 million euros in its fiets infrastructure. This will see improved fiets cycle paths, more fiets connections, a safer station environment and an expansion of the fiets cycle routes. The link to Genk-Zuid and the port area will also be fiets-friendly Done.
Anyone working in the port or industrial zone will therefore be able to make their commutes even easier with the combination of train and part fiets. Towards the end of last year, new fiets cycle paths were already being built on the former Ford site, connecting to the Cycle Motorway – a very welcome development given the ever-expanding port and increasing traffic volumes. The additional investment in fiets infrastructure is therefore a very positive development – not only for the climate and road safety, but also for the wellbeing of employees at companies in the port.
